Yankees manager Torre suspended one game

NEW YORK - Joe Torre will have an extra day to get
ready for the postseason.

Major League Baseball on Saturday suspended the New York Yankees
manager one game and fined him an undisclosed amount for the
intentional actions of pitcher Brad Halsey in Sunday's game
against the Boston Red Sox.

After Pedro Astacio of the Red Sox was ejected for throwing at
New York's Kenny Lofton in the top of the eighth inning of
Boston's 11-4 victory, Halsey threw high and inside to Dave
Roberts in the bottom half, prompting both benches to empty.

Astacio and Halsey both were suspended earlier this week.

Torre, who guided the Yankees to their seventh straight American
League East Division title this season, will serve his
suspension Saturday as New York visits Toronto.
