Devil Rays activate CF Baldelli from DL

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida - The Tampa Bay Devil Rays on
Wednesday activated center fielder Rocco Baldelli from the
15-day disabled list.

Baldelli has been sidelined since August 14 with a strained
right quadriceps, missing 15 games since suffering the injury
running to first base in a loss to Texas a day earlier.

In 109 games this season, Baldelli is hitting .279 with 10 home
runs and 53 RBIs. He is tied for fourth in the American League
with nine assists after leading the league last season.

The Devil Rays also recalled pitcher Chad Gaudin and purchased
the contract of outfielder Matt Diaz from Class AAA Durham of
the International League.

Gaudin made 18 appearances earlier this season, including four
starts, and posted a 1-2 record with a 4.45 ERA. Diaz made his
major league debut with Tampa Bay last season, going 1-for-9 in
four games.
