Soccer-Veron, Crespo return to Argentina squad for qualifier

BUENOS AIRES, Aug 22 - Former Chelsea team mates
Juan Sebastian Veron and Hernan Crespo have been recalled by
Argentina for their World Cup qualifier against Peru in Lima on
September 4.

Inter Milan's Veron and AC Milan striker Crespo, who missed
the Copa America in Peru in July where Argentina reached the
final, were picked for last week's friendly international away
to Japan but their clubs refused to release them.

Veron last played for Argentina in November in a 1-1 draw
away to Colombia in Barranquilla after which he underwent back
surgery and missed most of the rest of the season.

Valencia midfielder Pablo Aimar was also named in the squad
announced by the Argentine Football Association after missing
the Copa America and the Olympic Games through injury.

Coach Marcelo Bielsa is with the Argentine Olympic team at
the Athens Games.

Bielsa's senior squad includes a number of players in the
Olympic team, notably Carlos Tevez of Boca Juniors, whose
hat-trick helped Argentina beat Costa Rica 4-0 on Saturday to
reach the semi-finals.

Pablo Cavallero of Celta Vigo is the only goalkeeper in the
squad but Bielsa is expected to name at least one more, possibly
Leo Franco of Atletico Madrid, who played in the 2-1 win in
Japan or the Olympic team's German Lux of River Plate.

Argentina are second in the 10-nation South American World
Cup qualifying group with 12 points, one less than leaders
Brazil after seven games. Peru are seventh on nine points.
