UPDATE 1-Cricket-Giles and tail-end drag England to 470 all out

(updates at end of England innings)

By Mark Meadows

LONDON, Aug 20 - Ashley Giles hit 52 to help push
England to 470 all out after Andrew Flintoff and Geraint Jones
were dismissed early on the second day of the fourth test
against West Indies at The Oval on Friday.

Number eight Giles struck eight fours to equal his highest
test score, exploiting some wayward bowling and the close field
brought in to snare the tail.

Matthew Hoggard, dropped by Brian Lara and Carlton Baugh,
also made his best test knock of 38 as part of an 87-run eighth
wicket stand.

Giles fell when he edged Dwayne Bravo to Lara at slip and
three balls later Hoggard nicked Jermaine Lawson to Sylvester
Joseph also at slip.

Even last pair Steve Harmison (36 not out) and James
Anderson (12) took advantage of the undisciplined West Indies
attack.

They built an entertaining 60-run partnership from 60 balls
with Harmison smashing three sixes in his best test score, as
all England's batsmen made double figures for only the third
time ever.

West Indies removed Flintoff and Jones in the first four
overs of the morning after England had resumed on 313 for five,
chasing a record-equalling seventh consecutive test win.

Corey Collymore stood out as the only West Indies paceman
who consistently kept an upright seam and he took the wicket he
deserved when Jones (22) edged the new ball to Ramnaresh Sarwan
at slip in the fifth delivery of the day.

Flintoff failed to add to his overnight score of 72,
top-edging a pull off Fidel Edwards to Lawson who took an
excellent one-handed catch falling back at mid-on.

West Indies captain Lara said on Thursday that Edwards was
not fully fit because of stiffness and the fast bowler appeared
to pull up twice early in his spell but soldiered on.

England have already wrapped up the four-match series 3-0
and are aiming for their second whitewash in a row after the 3-0
rout of New Zealand in May and June.
