Colorado Avalanche Team Report

Last result: 3-1 loss vs. San Jose, May 4
Series: Lost Western Conference semifinals, 4-2

The Avalanche's bid for a historic comeback ended Tuesday with a
3-1 loss to San Jose in Game Six of the Western Conference
semifinals. "Our expectations when this thing was put together
were to win the Stanley Cup," coach Tony Granato said.
"Everyone is going to feel disappointment. Everyone is going to
feel like we didn't live up to our expectations." Asked about
his future, Granato said, "I'm not worried about that right now.
I didn't think I'd be up here talking about a loss tonight."
... LW Paul Kariya picked up an assist in his playoff debut
after missing 10 games due to an ankle injury. But the Avs were
without D Rob Blake (upper body) and LW Alex Tanguay (lower
body). ... RW Milan Hejduk scored the lone goal for Colorado,
which was trying to become just the third team in NHL history to
win a best-of-seven series after losing the first three games.
"Being down, 0-3, is a tough thing to come back on," C Joe
Sakic said. ... Was this C Peter Forsberg's last game in the
NHL? Asked about rumors he will return to Sweden next season,
he said, "We'll see what happens. Right now, I really don't
want to think about it."
