TCU football coach Patterson agrees to extension

FORT WORTH, Texas - Texas Christian football coach Gary
Patterson, who has guided the Horned Frogs to two straight
10-win seasons, on Wednesday agreed to a contract extension.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the Forth Worth
Telegram reported that Patterson signed a one-year extension
that keeps him under contract through 2008.

Under Patterson, the Horned Frogs have enjoyed a resurgence,
winning their first 10 games last season and climbing as high as
sixth in the Bowl Championship Series standings. They were in
contention for a BCS bowl until losing to Southern Mississippi
and finished the year 11-2.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to stay in Fort Worth,"
said Patterson, 27-11 in his three seasons at TCU. "We want to
keep improving and I believe consistency is the number one thing
to be successful. The contract extension gives us the
opportunity to tie TCU into the community and bring the four
corners of Fort Worth closer together."

Prior to Patterson's arrival, the Horned Frogs had not won 10
games in a season since 1938.
