Soccer-West Brom grab late winner to extend lead at the top

LONDON, Dec 9 - West Bromwich Albion beat Bradford
City 1-0 away with a goal two minutes from time by Scott Dobie
to extend their lead at the top of the first division to four
points over Sheffield United and Norwich City on Tuesday.

Sheffield United moved up two places to second after a 2-0
win over Walsall at Bramall Lane. United are level on 40 points
with third placed Norwich City, who did not play on Tuesday, but
have a slightly better goal difference after 22 matches.

Paul Peschisolido put United in front four minutes before
halftime with his first goal in 12 games and Nick Montgomery
added their second seven minutes after the break.

Cardiff City also jumped two places to sixth as they came
from behind twice to salvage a 2-2 draw at home to Preston
including a 90th-minute equaliser from Peter Thorne.

West Ham's promotion challenge faltered, however, as they
lost 1-0 to visitors Stoke after a first-half Frazer Richardson
goal. Crystal Palace also lost at home, going down 3-1 to Crewe.
