Alabama State 27, Jackson State 20

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Tarvari Jackson passed for one touchdown
and ran for another as Alabama State fought off a late Jackson
State rally for a 27-20 win on Saturday night.

Jackson State, (2-5, 2-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference), is
off to its worst start since 1969, when the Tigers finished the
season 2-6.

Alabama State,(4-2, 2-1), led 17-0 held a comfortable 27-7 lead
in the third quarter after a 1-yard run by Jackson.

The Tigers' rally began with a a 13-yard touchdown run from
David Kennebrew at the end of the third quarter and continued with
a 25-yard TD pass from Robert Kent to Air'en Cabell with 9:20 left
in the game.

But with less than five minutes remaining, Alabama State's
Myricks Cole intercepted a Kent pass to preserve the win.

Kent was 17-for-32 for 209 yards with two touchdowns and an
interception.

Jackson was 12-for-23 for 191 yards and two interceptions. He
threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Clifton Cotten in the first half.
Anthony Johnson added field goals of 30-and 24-yards for the
Hornets.

Alabama State finished with 455 yards of offense.
