Early run sparks Golden Hurricane

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Dante Swanson, Jason Parker and Seneca Collins each scored 12 points to lead Tulsa to an 81-47 victory over Texas-El Paso in the Western Athletic Conference quarterfinals in Thursday.

The Golden Hurricane (20-9) scored 21 consecutive points in the
first half and led 37-13 at the break.

The Hurricane shot 46 percent from the field while limiting UTEP
to 30.5 percent shooting. The Miners (6-24) had 16 turnovers and
made just six of 26 shots in the first half.

Justino Victoriano had 18 points and 11 rebounds for UTEP.

Tulsa jumped out to a 13-6 lead, then scored 21 straight points
before Thomas Gehrke hit a basket for UTEP with 2:39 left in the
half.

UTEP freshman center John Tofi was injured with 16:02 left in
the second half. He took an inadvertent blow to the head and was
taken off the court on a stretcher.

UTEP coach Billy Gillispie said Tofi was not seriously injured.

Tulsa will face Hawaii in the semifinals on Friday.
