2002 Recap
The Good: Antonio Pizzonia wasn't racing in F1 but he got plenty of F1
experience thanks to being a test driver for Williams BMW. He impressed
the Williams BMW team, who has him under long-term contract. He also got
in another season of top level racing by competing in his second year in
the FIA International Formula 3000 Championship. Season Highlight: Second place in the Italian round of the F3000 series.
And getting the telephone from Jaguar Racing saying that he'd been offered
a F1 ride in 2003. The Bad: Pizzonia's career, which had a meteoric rise, stumbled in 2002.
He failed to win a race for the first time in many years. Season Lowlight: In one of his first tests with Jaguar, at the end of the
2002 season, he wrecked an expensive Jaguar sports car and then crashed a
Jaguar F1 car. Key Stat: Nearly 9,000 miles of F1 testing with Williams-BMW in 2002. 2003 Outlook
What needs to be done: Having undergone yet another restructuring, Jaguar
needs to settle down and go racing and hope the car is finally competitive.
Pizzonia struggled in F3000 last year but was impressive as a F1 tester,
so he needs to be the latter driver rather than the former in 2003. Prediction: The 2002 Jaguar was a flop, so the 2003 car has to be better.
Pizzonia will be wild but fast. Your Take
