SYDNEY, Nova Scotia -- Zach Parise and Barry Tallackson had
two goals apiece as the United States defeated Belarus 8-2 on Monday
in the International Ice Hockey Federation's World Junior
Championship. Bobby Goepfert made 19 saves as the U.S. team outshot Belarus
45-21. Ryan Kesler opened the scoring for the Americans, who netted the
game's first seven goals. Kesler beat Dzmitry Kamovich for his
first goal of the tournament at 9:34 of the first period. The U.S. team also got goals from Brian McConnell and defenseman
Ryan Whitney, who added two assists. The Americans (2-1) are second in the preliminary round of play
in Group A behind Russia (3-0). Belarus fell to 0-4.
