New USOC president gets spot in international council

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- U.S. Olympic Committee President
Marty Mankamyer was appointed Monday to the Association of National
Olympic Committees Executive Council.

Also Monday, Hernando Madronero resigned as USOC's managing
director of international relations.

Mankamyer was appointed to the international council by
President Mario Vazquez Rana.

She also will serve as ex-officio member of the Pan American
Sports Association Executive Committee.

Mankamyer was appointed as USOC president in August after Sandy
Baldwin admitted she lied about academic credentials and resigned.
Mankamyer is the second woman to head the world's most powerful
Olympic committee.

Madronero had been director of international relations since
April 2000. A USOC press release said only that he resigned to
pursue other interests.

Jeffrey G. Benz, USOC's managing director of legal and
government affairs and its general counsel, will oversee
international relations.
