Richardson hospitalized with high fever

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson
was hospitalized because of chills and a high fever and will not
attend Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.

The illness is not believed to be serious, but doctors want to
identify the cause of the problem before releasing him, said team
spokesman Charlie Dayton. Richardson, who was hospitalized Friday
night, is expected to be released by Monday.

The 66-year-old Richardson has never missed a home game at
Ericsson Stadium.

Richardson, a former NFL player, is responsible for bringing the
expansion Panthers to the Carolinas. He's one of the league's more
active owners, currently serving as chairman of the league's
stadium committee.
