Users respond to ESPN.com's Bottom 10

Is there a curse (or blessing) attached to the top spot of the Bottom 10? Rutgers -- following in the footsteps of Duke and Arkansas State -- became the latest team to win after moving into the No.1 position. Does that mean good things are ahead for Tulsa?

Here's what you had to say about the week five rankings:

Clothes don't make the man (or Cowboy)

I know our football team is awful, but you do not have to bag on our uniforms. Wyoming fans take a lot of pride in the classic brown and gold uniforms. Anyway, whether we are wearing the classic brown and gold or if we get new metallic looking 'modern' uniforms, we will still have a bad football team. Actually, as much as I like our current uniforms I would not be objected to a change if would help our team win a game. Might I suggest something pink with lace trim and let the team know that they will be wearing them until they win a game. Buy one for the coach and athletic director, too.

Greg De Rossitte
Little Rock, Ark.

Allright! Listen up you gutter swilling morons. Wyoming's uniforms are unique, original, and compliment the Wyoming lifestyle. If you don't like them, fine. Shut up and stay out of the state! We like them just fine and at least have the pride not to change them every decade to fulfill some lame moron's idea of fashion. The pokes will get back in the saddle soon. If you have a problem with this, drop by Fort Riley sometime and we can work it out!

It was the beginning of the 1930's last time we sucked this bad. Welcome to the new Great Depression.

How the mighty have fallen
Part 1: Michigan State

You called it right on Michigan State (my alma mater). They came totally unprepared to play AGAIN! What will it take to get these guys ready for a game?

Alas, letdown is an annual feeling as a MSU fan.

Fred Fuller
Lake Oswego, Ore.

How can any SANE person include Michigan State among the nation's worst 10 teams?!?!?! They were ranked 15th before last week and they have the nation's best WR in Charles Rogers. I agree the performance of MSU against CAL last week was nothing short of pathetic, but they'll show their true colors against ND this weekend

Doug
Northville, Mich.

Thank you for putting the Spartans where they belong. After being forced to watch MSU give away the ball inside the 5-yard-line TWICE (band members can't leave early, like everyone else in the stadium), I can only hope that SOMEBODY wakes up this week, or we're gonna be trounced by Notre Dame next week. At least they beat Michigan...

Jake
East Lansing, Mich.

I understand that Michigan St.'s loss to Cal at home was very poor. BUT THERE RECORD IS 2-1! Give me a break! I am far from being a Spartan fan, but this is really ridiculous. Maybe you guys forgot to notice that Cal is 3-0. OK, so why not put BYU in the Bottom 10 poll too? They lost to Nevada for goodness sake. Or maybe the Gators belong in this weeks poll because they had a bad first half against the weak Bearcats of Ohio.

In an effort to be provocative, the people that put together the Bottom 10 have proven that anybody can make this poll at any given time. Be careful Miami, maybe you're next!

How the mighty have fallen
Part 2: Colorado

Colorado? Come on. I know that they are terrible when compared to their projected selves, but Bottom 10? Please reserve that distinction for true champions of disaster, like Baylor or Duke (whose wheels are officially back off), not some fly-by-night failure like the bland (but not abominable) Buffs.

Dan
Minneapolis, Minn.

Brilliant putting Colorado in the bottom. I'm a Big 12 fan, and at the beginning of the year all I heard was how good Colorado was going to be. So far all they proved that last year was a one-time deal. I watched both Colorado loses and they looked terrible. They might finish second to last in the Big 12 North this year, just behind Missouri and ahead of Kansas. Unless they win a big game, keep them in the Bottom 10 for the rest of the season.

Brandon Amaya
Edmond, Okla.

CU in the Bottom 10???? PLEASE...why not throw Nebraska in there as well? Sure the Buffs looked miserable against SC, but one game does not a season make. Your Bottom 10 cannot be taken seriously when you base it on one lousy performance.

I will take CU against UTEP anyday (let alone the other eight of the Bottom 10). Maybe CU should start scheduling some panzies in the same fashion of Kansas St. so they can run their record to 4-0 before the Big 12 season begins, and also avoid your facetious rankings.

Maybe you'll throw SC in the Bottom 10 after they are hammered this week in Manhattan.

Colorado No. 4?!? Wow, I didn't expect them to be ranked this high in the polls! Oh wait, this isn't the Coaches' or Media's poll?!? Whew...for a second there I thought all of the voters lived in Boulder again. Eventually they will have to pass the neighbors to the north. Maybe we could get the Wyo/Colo rivalry started up with a win by the Cowboys??? Remember Baylor visits on October 19th. Might be the Buffs best chance for a win the rest of the way. Take that Berkeley, CO!!!

Lakewood, Colo.

Some good ol' Baylor lines

How does being shut out, and only gaining 107 yards offense against lowly New Mexico NOT get you in the Bottom 10? Oh well, Baylor will be back after they lose to Tulsa.

F. Stanton
Waco, Texas

Please reconsider Baylor. Baylor gained 100 yards against New Mexico in a shutout loss, 30 of those yards in the last drive. New Mexico gave up 400 yards to Div I-AA Weber St. The team, coach and administration is clueless.

I guess we'll have to wait another week when Tulsa ends their losing streak. Expect heavy rioting in Waco Saturday night. Rumor has it Baylor had a football team that could "compete" about 20 years ago, but I'll look into that to verify.

Mark
Lubbock, Texas

The Big 12 was CHEATED! How can you leave Baylor off the list? They haven't won a conference game since Doak Walker was leading the Southwest Conference in rushing!

Mike Gordon
Dallas, Texas

I could not have asked for a better matchup at a better time. Baylor, an 11 point favorite, facing the No.1 worst in the nation Tulsa Golden Breeze. What better way to prove that Baylor belongs high and strong in your Bottom 10 rankings than to lose to the worst. This could be one of the worst college football games ever. I can't wait.
Final Score: Tulsa 3, Baylor 2.

J. Altimore
Waco, Texas

Up where we belong

Finally No. 1. TU has been the worst team in the country for the past 2 years, bar none.... They may have trouble making the state high school playoffs with the defense (rather lack thereof) they've shown. Not to mention there were more people at the local high school rivalry game last week than TU will be able to draw until OU or OSU come calling again....Thank God for teams like Baylor and UTEP though....We may be able to hold them under 50 points. Just keep telling myself, basketball season starts in 3 weeks!

Brandon
Tulsa, Okla.

Well, you finally made Tulsa your worst team in the nation. I am surprised it took you this long. You speak of Wyoming's hideous uniforms, have you seen those of the Mightless Golden Hurricane -- yikes! Stone cold lock for this week is Baylor over Tulsa. The University of Tulsa knows what it needs to do to get the program back on track. The administration just will not admit their faults and make amends. This team will be I-AA or gone altogether by 2004. At least we still have basketball until they screw that up too. The Tulsa faithful are already looking forward to March.

Christopher Doty
Dallas, Texas

I know this really isn't related to football, but another thing Tulsa has going against it is its' mascot. The last time I checked my meteorology books, Hurricanes hit only coastal states and Oklahoma is a long way from the coast. Perhaps, an accurate mascot would help overall karma of the team? Just a thought.

One and done?

A win doesn't make Rutgers any better than GOD-AWFUL!! They are atrocious. Their win can be attributed solely to the depletion of Army's football team to a much nobler cause. With Rutgers' easy schedule behind them, they won't just go winless the remainder of the year; they'll go SCORELESS.

Dan Smith
Mt. Laurel, NJ

You guys are as bad as the media here in N.J. Rutgers beats arguably the worst division 1A team in the U.S. and they bounce out of the Bottom 10. Next, you're going to try to determine what bowl game they'll play in! This attitude has been RU's problem for years. Somebody needs to keep telling them they stink until they start winning games consistently. Army No. 117, RU No. 116, no doubt about it!

Steve Koreivo
Byram Twp., N.J.

How can Rutgers be removed this week after a lousy win over Army. Especially if you're going to have Buffalo at No. 7, after they destroyed Rutgers 34-11 at Rutgers just a week ago. This is a travesty to Rutgers athletics, but I'm sure that Rutgers will redeem themselves and get back in the top 10 and maybe even all the way to No. 1 by losing the rest of their games, some by pretty ridiculous scores.

Damian Elie
Franklin Park, N.J.

Can't wait for Navy

What's the deal with Army only obtaining the sixth spot? They lost to the worst team last week, Rutgers. In fact, imagine making the 50 yard line Army's endzone -- they still would have lost decisively due to the fact that they failed to reach midfield until the third quarter. What more do we have to do to get that top spot? We were favored by 4 points to Rutgers and lost by 44! Cut us some slack and rate us #1!

Mike
New York

Remember something about Army. Our goal is not Saturdays Battles, but America's wars. We don't lose those.

SGT Donald Johnson

And the nominees are ...

How can the Miners only be 9th??? They're giving up more points per game than the UTEP basketball team. Heck, they're giving up more points than the San Antonio Spurs did last season. Hopefully, after giving up 80+ points to Hawaii on Saturday, we'll get the respect we deserve and move into the bottom 5.

I would have to say that I am in full agreement with Tulsa being the flagship for the worst of the worst, however, I do not believe that one win should get Arkansas State out of the poll. They have proven and will continue to prove that they truly do belong on the Bottom 10 poll. As a matter of fact I think that ASU is so bad the bottom 10 poll should be re-named the "Arkansas State Indians Bottom 10." And with today's college game involving corporate sponsorship I was wondering if ASU's official long distance provider is MCI Worldcom? Is the official energy provider of ASU Enron? What about ASU's official accounting firm -- Arthur Anderson? Just a few thoughts and questioins. Thanks, and great work on the ASU bottom 10, great poll with some great laughs.

Uh--where are the Duke Blue Smerfs?? They might win one more this year if Navy decides not to show up. Vanderbilt won't win another game this season, including UConn. It's not easy being a private school in a major football conference.

Sherwin Nelson
South Windor, Conn.

I believe you have omitted someone. The Eastern Michigan Eagles have a proud tradition, and so far this year have upheld it being outscored 153 to 55. The most recent involved letting Souteast Missouri State's backup quarterback throw for roughly 300 yards. As for their traditions most professors at the school can't even remember their last winning season(1995). Since they lost to Michigan State I believe they should be ranked between 3 and 7 in the poll.

Where was Nebraska? Both on Sat Night and in this Poll?

Rusty Behr
Omaha, Neb.

Where is BYU? You really should have put them here this week, they certainally deserved it. Get beat Nevada Reno, come on! When I heard we were playing Reno I thought it may be against our own wide receiver Reno Mahe. What's up with that?

Chris Marble
Salem, Utah

Man this hurts....KU not in the Bottom 10?? Yeah, they beat Southwest Missouri State, but come on they aren't Division one....KU is still one of the worst teams out there...come one ESPN give us some respect already!!!

Brian
Leawood, Kan.

So what does Utah State have to do in order to crack the Bottom 10? First, they suffer consecutive blowout losses on the first two weeks of the season. This week they barely beat a I-AA team (Idaho State) at home. (This is the same Idaho State team that beat the Aggies last year.) Once they get thumped by Boise State and BYU, will that be sufficient?

Palo Alto, Calif.

I suffered through four years of Vandy football and, although I left many games early, I know firsthand the false hope and disappointment every new football season brings to all current Vandy students. All of us alums still affectionately refer to the Notre Dame game in 1996 as the high point of our football program in recent years, and we lost that game! I am confident Vandy will return to the Bottom 10.
