MONTEREY, Calif. -- Rinaldo Capello drove his Audi to the
pole for Sunday's American Le Mans Series Monterey Sports Car
Championships at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Capello, tied for the ALMS point lead with teammate Tom
Kristensen, turned a qualifying speed of 107.084 Saturday, just
short of his track record 107.384 set last year.
Former Formula One star Stefan Johansson qualified
second-fastest at 106.076 in an Audi he will share with Patrick
Lemarie. Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro qualified third at 105.970,
also in an Audi.
Jan Magnussen and David Brabham, who have won two of the last
three ALMS races, will start fourth in a Panoz LMP-1.
