SAN DIEGO -- Trey Canard raced to his second 450SX victory of the AMA Supercross season Saturday night, holding off Ken Roczen in the inaugural event at Petco Park.
Canard also won two weeks ago in Oakland. The Honda racer has five career 450SX victories -- the first three in 2011.
Canard took the lead from Roczen on the fourth of 20 laps, getting inside position on the Suzuki rider after a side-by-side battle.
"It's been a long road but I'm just so grateful to be in this position (winning races) again," Canard said. "I opened a gap and Kenny closed it right back in. He kept me on my toes the whole time."
Roczen won the first two of the three Anaheim races.
"That was a very fun race. I just made too many mistakes," Roczen said. "It was a good battle. I wish I would have picked up the pace sooner, but it's good to be back on the box. It was a good night tonight and we'll keep charging."
KTM's Ryan Dungey was third, followed by Kawasaki's Chad Reed and Honda's Eli Tomac. Dungey held onto the lead in the season standings, nine points ahead of Roczen and 18 ahead of Canard after six events.
"I felt good in the Main Event," Dungey said. "I was hoping I'd be able to close in on the leaders, but those lappers were tough. We gave it our all and we're happy with that. We'll keep working and get ready for next week."
Yamaha's Cooper Webb won the Western Regional 250SX race for his second straight victory and fourth in the first six races. The 19-year-old Webb increased his season lead to 30 points over KTM's Jessy Nelson
Racing after a hard hit in an over-the-bars wreck in practice, Webb took the lead from Kawasaki's Tyler Bowers with six laps left. KTM's Shane Mcelrath was second, and Bowers slipped to third. Nelson was eighth.
Webb injured a shoulder in the wreck.
"I wasn't going to race tonight," Webb said. "My crash was gnarly and I'm just thankful to walk away from it. I knew tonight was going to be a fight. I told myself, `I can hurt as much as I want tomorrow, but there's no better feeling than winning."
The Western Regional riders are taking a midseason break, giving way to the Eastern Regional series. Western Regional racing will resume return on April 11 in Houston.
