Kyle Palmieri replaces injured Ryan Callahan on World Cup roster

NHL, New Jersey Devils

USA Hockey has named New Jersey Devils forward Kyle Palmieri to its World Cup of Hockey roster, replacing the injured Ryan Callahan.

Palmieri recorded a career-high 30 goals, 27 assists and 57 points last season and signed a $23.25 million, five-year deal this summer. Among U.S.-born players, only the Chicago Blackhawks' Patrick Kane and the San Jose Sharks' Joe Pavelski scored more goals last season.

In 280 NHL games, the 25-year-old has 73 goals and 73 assists. U.S. general manager Dean Lombardi said Palmieri "brings an all-around game that we're confident will fit nicely.''

Named to the original roster, Callahan underwent surgery in June to repair a labral tear in his right hip. He's expected to miss at least the first month of the regular season for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
