The Panthers' moves make them Stanley Cup contenders

With franchise defenseman Aaron Ekblad now signed to a long-term contract, the Panthers will be one of the top Stanley Cup contenders in the East for quite some time. Fred Kfoury III/Icon Sportswire

The Florida Panthers are coming off one of the most successful seasons in franchise history, so naturally it would seem odd that the organization followed the 2015-16 season by making significant shake-ups in the front office and on the roster.

After winning the Atlantic Division and earning its first playoff berth since 2012, the club made multiple changes at the top, including bumping general manager Dale Tallon to team president and naming Tom Rowe the GM. The overhauled front office then acquired two goalies, three defensemen and three forwards and re-signed two forwards and a defenseman to long-term contract extensions.

Where did all this movement put them? In position to make a serious push for a Stanley Cup.
