Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh returns for Game 3 vs. Penguins

NHL, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins

NEW YORK -- Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh is back in the lineup for Game 3 of his team's first-round playoff series with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

McDonagh sustained an upper-body (hand) injury in the final week of the regular season. He missed the final three games and the first two of the best-of-seven series.

McDonagh practiced Monday for the first time since being hurt. The defenseman was a game-time decision for Tuesday's game at Madison Square Garden.

Dylan McIlrath came out of the lineup to make room for McDonagh.

The Penguins got back goaltender Matt Murray, 21, who was injured in the final weekend of the season in a collision in a game against Philadelphia. He started Tuesday's game, his first NHL playoff game.

With No. 1 goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury out with a concussion, Jeff Zatkoff started the first two games. He won the first 5-2 and lost the second 4-2.

ESPN's Scott Burnside and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
