Chicago Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa had to be helped off the ice with a left leg injury suffered in the second period of Chicago's 3-2 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night.
Hossa went down in the corner after he was hit by Ducks defenseman Hampus Lindholm on his lower left leg with about 5½ minutes left in the second. The 37-year-old winger, sitting on 496 career goals, went straight to the locker room and did not return.
"We don't think it's serious. He could miss some time,'' Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said following his team's third consecutive loss that dropped the defending Stanley Cup champions to 4-5-1 since their franchise-record 12-game winning streak.
Quenneville described the Lindholm check as "on the borderline," according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
"Not much you can say about those hip checks," Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews said, according to the newspaper. "I think they're always risky. A guy takes a hit low like that, if your skate gets caught in a rut or can't quite give out the way you want it to, something's got to give there. More often than not, it doesn't end well."
Hossa has 10 goals and 18 assists in 54 games this season.
