Boston Bruins goalie prospect Malcolm Subban has been released from Massachusetts General Hospital and is expected to be sidelined a minimum of eight weeks after having surgery on a fractured larynx suffered during an AHL game on Feb. 6.
He had surgery on Feb. 8 at Massachusetts Eye & Ear Hospital in Boston.
"He is doing well and has been released from the hospital," a team statement read. "While there is no definitive timetable for his return at this time, he is expected to be out a minimum of eight weeks."
Subban, 22, was struck in the throat by a puck Saturday during pregame warm-ups for the Providence Bruins in Portland, Maine. He was transported to Maine Medical Center and was admitted overnight for observation. On Sunday, he was transported by rescue to Massachusetts General for further evaluation and ultimately needed surgery.
A first-round draft pick of the Bruins in 2012, Subban is 14-8-5 with a .911 save percentage in 27 games with Providence this season.
He is the brother of Montreal Canadiens star defenseman P.K. Subban.
Subban backed up Bruins starting goalie Tuukka Rask when Jonas Gustavsson went on injured reserve with an elevated heart rate at the end of January but didn't see any action.
