Milan Lucic serenaded by TD Garden fans before Boston return

NHL, Los Angeles Kings, Boston Bruins

Milan Lucic, a fan favorite for his hard-nosed play and timely goals during his eight years with the Boston Bruins, got plenty of love from the TD Garden crowd Tuesday night when he returned for the first time as a member of the Los Angeles Kings.

As the national anthem finished, Lucic was serenaded with the familiar calls of "Loooch," bringing a big smile to his face. That was followed by a video tribute midway through the first period that earned Lucic a standing ovation from the sellout crowd and more cheers of "Loooch."

Lucic, 27, said before the game that he has nothing but good memories about his time in Boston.

"I'm pretty fortunate that I got to be a Bruin in probably one of the best times to ever be a Bruin," Lucic said. "They've only won six Cups in the 92 years they've played, so it was a great time for me here. It was a special time for me here."

It continued to be a great time in Boston for Lucic, who scored a goal and had an assist as the Kings pounded the Bruins 9-2.

Lucic, a pending free agent who was dealt to the Kings in June, had written a letter entitled "To Boston" for The Players Tribune a couple of days before his return, talking about the city, his former teammates and the fans.

A second-round draft pick in 2006, Lucic scored 139 goals and had 342 points as a Bruin and played in all 25 postseason games en route to helping Boston take home the Stanley Cup in 2011.

In his first year with the Kings, Lucic has 12 goals and 30 points in 50 games.
