New Jersey Devils put Patrik Elias on IR with knee injury

Patrik Elias, who holds numerous New Jersey Devils team records and is close to becoming the team's all-time leader in games played, was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with a right knee injury.

The move was retroactive to Dec. 21. The 39-year-old forward also missed the first 20 games on the season because of a knee injury.

"He's still not feeling ready to play, so we'll keep him out for a little bit," coach John Hynes said.

Elias, the club's career leader in goals (407), assists (615), points (1,022), power-play goals (113) and game-winning goals (80), has one goal and four assists in 13 games this season. He needs to play in 47 more games to pass Ken Daneyko to become the Devils' all-time leader in games played with 1,284.
