Coyotes goalie Mike Smith out 8-10 weeks after core muscle surgery

Arizona Coyotes goalie Mike Smith will be out eight to 10 weeks after having core muscle surgery Tuesday, the team said.

Smith is 10-9-1 with a 3.06 goals-against average this season for Arizona.

The 33-year-old hasn't played since Dec. 8. The Coyotes had placed him on injured reserve over the weekend.

Anders Lindback will take over as Arizona's No. 1 goalie until Smith is back. He is 4-5-1 with a 2.92 goals-against average in 12 games. Louis Domingue will serve as Lindback's backup, though GM Don Maloney said Arizona may explore the trade market.
