Wild's Zach Parise exits with lower-body injury after check into boards

NHL, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Minnesota Wild left wing Zach Parise left in the first period of Thursday night's 3-2 loss to Nashville with a lower-body injury.

Wild coach Mike Yeo told reporters that he would provide an update on Parise's condition Friday but that he won't play Saturday against Tampa Bay.

Parise left after getting hit on his first shift. Battling for the puck near the right wall in the offensive zone, Parise went awkwardly into the boards when James Neal hit him from behind, possibly knee to knee.

"Cheap? I don't know. Running around reckless? Yeah. But I guess that's part of the game," Minnesota defenseman Ryan Suter said.

No penalty was called.

"Looked like a good hit to me," Nashville coach Peter Laviolette said.

Parise, the team's leading goal scorer with seven, limped off favoring his right leg and briefly went down the tunnel toward the dressing room. He returned and played five more shifts but then went back to the locker room with about two minutes left in the first period. He did not return after that.
