Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith underwent successful surgery to repair a meniscal tear in his right knee and is expected to miss four to six weeks, the team announced Tuesday.
Keith, 32, played through the Blackhawks' last game, a 4-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday and was on the ice for 27 shifts and 25 minutes, 34 seconds of ice time. He has two assists and has averaged 24:21 of ice time in six games this season.
Keith is a two-time Norris Trophy winner and was voted the Conn Smythe Trophy winner after the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup championship run last season. He has never missed more than eight games in a season since coming into the league as a rookie in 2005. He has 75 goals and 342 assists in 772 career regular-season games.
Keith's surgery was performed by Blackhawks head team physician Michael Terry at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
