Alex Ovechkin misses Capitals' game vs. Sharks due to personal reasons

NHL, Washington Capitals, San Jose Sharks

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin missed the team's Tuesday night's 5-0 home loss to the San Jose Sharks for personal reasons.

Capitals coach Barry Trotz said earlier in the day that Ovechkin would be a game-time decision after the forward missed Washington's morning skate. No other details were given.

Ovechkin is a three-time NHL MVP who led the league with 53 goals last season. He had a goal and an assist in Washington's season-opening 5-3 victory over New Jersey on Saturday.

With Ovechkin out, the Caps moved Andre Burakovsky from the second line to the top line, where he will join Evgeny Kuznetsov and T.J. Oshie.
