Flames' T.J. Brodie could miss 3-6 weeks with broken bone in hand

CALGARY, Alberta -- Flames defenseman T.J. Brodie has suffered a broken bone in his right hand and is expected to miss three to six weeks.

Brodie took a shot off his hand in Monday's preseason game against the Edmonton Oilers.

Brodie became Calgary's No. 1 defenseman at the end of last season and played significant minutes after captain Mark Giordano was injured in February.

The 25-year-old Brodie does not require surgery, Flames general manager Brad Treliving said.

The Flames open the regular season at home Oct. 7 against the Vancouver Canucks.
