Bruins deal Carl Soderberg's rights to Avalanche for 6th-round pick

NHL, Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche

SUNRISE, Fla. -- On the eve of the 2015 NHL draft, the Boston Bruins have traded the rights of forward Carl Soderberg to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2016.

Soderberg will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1. ESPN.com 's Pierre LeBrun reported Thursday that Soderberg is seeking $5 million per season after making $1 million last season.

The 29-year-old forward played 161 regular-season games for the Bruins and posted 29 goals and 65 assists for 94 points. He also played in 14 playoff games for Boston with one goal and five assists for six points.

The Bruins originally had a sixth-round selection in 2016, but lost it when the team acquired Maxime Talbot and Paul Carey from Colorado on March 2 in exchange for forward Jordan Caron.

Originally selected by the St. Louis Blues in the second round (No. 49 overall) in the 2004 NHL entry draft, Soderberg was acquired by the Bruins in exchange for goaltender Hannu Toivonen on July 23, 2007.

Soderberg spent seven seasons playing in Sweden before he arrived in Boston during the 2013 lockout-shortened season. He never lived up to expectations, and it wasn't long before new Bruins GM Don Sweeney decided to move on.
