Stamkos comes up empty, Lightning fall to Blackhawks

NHL, Tampa Bay Lightning, Chicago Blackhawks, Washington Capitals

CHICAGO -- One of the NHL's most prolific scorers this season, Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos came away empty-handed in the biggest series of his career.

His performance in Game 6 basically summed up the Stanley Cup Final for him.

Stamkos missed two big opportunities and the Lightning fell 2-0, giving the Chicago Blackhawks their third championship in six years on Monday night.

Second to Washington's Alex Ovechkin with 43 goals during the regular season, Stamkos tied a Tampa Bay playoff record by scoring in four straight games in the Eastern Conference Final.

But it was a different story against Chicago. He was relentless in the series but just couldn't break through.

He just missed his first goal of the series seven minutes into the final game when he hit the crossbar with a slapshot, and the night did not get any better for him after that. Stamkos got stopped on a breakaway just under a minute into the second, slowing down in front of Corey Crawford and then watching his shut get knocked away by the goalie's pad.
