Stars' Jamie Benn has second hip surgery

NHL scoring champion Jamie Benn of the Dallas Stars had a second hip surgery in less than a week, the team confirmed Tuesday.

Benn, a finalist for the Ted Lindsay Award, which is presented by the NHL Players' Association to the league's most outstanding player, skated with pain in both hips throughout the season.

Stars trainer Dave Zeis told The Dallas Morning News that Benn will likely return to the ice in August and should be ready for the start of the regular season.

Benn scored 10 points (five goals, five assists) in the final three regular-season games to surge past the likes of Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby and Washington's Alex Ovechkin to win the Art Ross Trophy with 87 points -- one better than John Tavares of the New York Islanders. Crosby was third with 84 points, and Ovechkin tied for fourth.

The 25-year-old Benn had 35 goals and 52 assists for the Stars, who missed the playoffs for the sixth time in seven seasons.
