CHICAGO -- Blackhawks forward Antoine Vermette played in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Nashville Predators in Game 3 of the teams' Western Conference first-round series after being a healthy scratch the first two games.
Vermette was on the ice for 13:35, taking 17 shifts and finishing a plus-1.
Vermette was highly sought at the trade deadline, and the Blackhawks acquired him from the Arizona Coyotes for a first-round draft pick and a prospect. Coach Joel Quenneville was unimpressed by Vermette's production since joining the Blackhawks as he had zero goals and three assists in 19 regular-season games and was made a healthy scratch the first two games of the series.
"He's worked hard here," Quenneville said before the game. "I think he's practiced well. I think he's disappointed obviously [he] didn't get the start here. He did everything he could to prepare to get a chance to get in there. Things change quickly in our business there. We expect him to come in and play a strong game for us and be excited for the chance to play."
Vermette has kept a positive attitude despite being benched. He was confident he would get back into the lineup at some point.
"All I know is I'm not starting the series," Vermette said before Game 2 on Friday. "That's all. I'm sure I'm going to get a chance at some point here. I'll make myself ready regardless of what happened before. I'm not focusing on that.
"I'm just looking at one day at a time, try to build some good days and be ready for the game. I know it's repetitive, but that's my honest answer. That's how I feel. I really, truly feel bringing a good attitude and to be good around the guys and establish positive and constructive mindset around [them], it's going to be beneficial to everybody."
Vermette couldn't remember the last time he was made a healthy scratch in his 11-year career. He has played in 58 career playoff games.
Quenneville didn't say who Vermette would replace in the lineup.
The Blackhawks lead the Predators 2-1 in the series. Games 4 is Tuesday night in Chicago.
