Jarret Stoll arrested on suspicion of drug possession

NHL, Los Angeles Kings

LAS VEGAS -- Los Angeles Kings center Jarret Stoll was arrested Friday for suspected cocaine possession at the MGM Grand Hotel's Wet Republic pool complex.

Stoll was held at the Clark County Detention Center. He was released from custody Friday night, an officer confirmed to ESPN.com's Katie Strang.

Stoll also was suspected of possessing Ecstasy, and NHL security was notified of the situation, police told the Las Vegas CBS affiliate.

His attorney David Chesnoff said it would be premature to comment on the details of the case but urged "everyone not to prejudge the circumstances" surrounding the two-time Stanley Cup champion's arrest.

"He's been very gentlemanly to deal with, and I'm looking forward to helping him and seeing this to a successful conclusion," Chesnoff said.

The Kings issued a statement late Friday, saying they were aware of the reports.

"Our organization is concerned and has begun conducting a thorough internal investigation," the team's statement said. "While we continue to actively gather facts, we are withholding further comment at this time."

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly also issued a statement to the Los Angeles Times.

"We are aware of the reports tonight, and we obviously will follow up to understand the nature of the allegations that are being made," Daly told the Times. "We are not in a position at this time to comment further until we have more information."

Stoll, 32, will become an unrestricted free agent July 1 after struggling this season. He had six goals and 11 assists in 73 games, his seventh with Los Angeles after five with Edmonton.

The center helped the Kings win Stanley Cup titles in 2012 and 2014. Los Angeles missed the playoffs this season.

Stoll is the boyfriend of Erin Andrews, the Fox Sports reporter and "Dancing with the Stars" co-host. Stoll also was engaged to actress and model Rachel Hunter, singer Rod Stewart's former wife.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
