Joakim Nordstrom out for boarding

Chicago forward Joakim Nordstrom has been suspended for two games without pay for boarding Arizona Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson in the Blackhawks' win Thursday.

The incident occurred in the final minute of the third period. Nordstrom drove Ekman-Larsson from behind into the boards, knocking him to the ice, and was assessed a minor penalty. Ekman-Larsson remained on the ice for some time and was attended to by the Coyotes' medical staff. He left the game and did not return.

Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said after the game that Ekman-Larsson was day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Nordstrom has two assists and is a minus-4 in 31 games this season. He has been one of the Blackhawks' top penalty-kill players since they dealt Ben Smith at the trade deadline.

The suspension was announced after Nordstrom had a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety. Nordstrom will forfeit $6,630.82 in salary.
