Alex Ovechkin's 96-game streak ends

NHL, Washington Capitals, Minnesota Wild

WASHINGTON -- NHL goals leader Alex Ovechkin was scratched from the Washington Capitals' 2-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild, ending a streak of 96 consecutive games played.

The Capitals said Ovechkin, who missed the morning skate, is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

He leads the league with 43 goals and is tied with linemate Nicklas Backstrom for the points lead with 67. Ovechkin scored two goals in each of Washington's last two games, both wins.

The Capitals also recalled Andre Burakovsky from Hershey of the American Hockey League. He has nine goals and 12 assists in 48 games this season with Washington.
