NEWARK, N.J. -- New Jersey Devils rookie goalie Keith Kinkaid was forced out in the second period against the Carolina Hurricanes after he was injured while stretching for a shot on Saturday night.
Kinkaid was injured with 6:01 left in the period. He stopped an initial shot by Eric Staal and appeared to sustain a lower-body injury while stretching to come across the crease for a potential rebound attempt.
He lay on the ice for a couple of minutes before slowly skating off to the dressing room. Kinkaid stopped all 17 shots he faced before leaving, and the Devils had a 3-0 lead.
No. 1 New Jersey goalie Cory Schneider, who was getting a rare night off, replaced him in net.
