Boston Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller will undergo season-ending right shoulder surgery, the team announced Saturday.
He was placed on injured reserve Thursday after dislocating his right shoulder during Monday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Calgary Flames.
Miller missed 12 games earlier this season with a dislocated right shoulder, but had played every game since returning to the lineup Nov. 21. He has been wearing a brace during games and practices, and recently admitted he would likely need offseason surgery.
Miller originally suffered the injury during a fight with the Sabres' Nicolas Deslauriers on Oct. 18. At the end of the fight, the two landed hard on the ice and Miller needed to go to the locker room. He did not return for the remainder of that game and missed the next 12 games.
In 41 games this season, Miller posted two goals and five assists for seven points. He was also leading the team with a plus-20 rating.
Coach Claude Julien also said Saturday that forward David Krejci will not play Sunday against the Chicago Blackhawks and will be re-evaluated Monday in Boston.
Krejci suffered a lower-body injury during the second period of Friday's 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues. Boston's top-line center exited the ice and did not return after he collided with the Blues' Alexander Steen. Krejci was favoring his left leg when he left the ice.
Krejci missed 20 games earlier this season with a groin injury, but Julien told reporters in Chicago that this latest injury is not related. Since Krejci is sidelined for Sunday's game at United Center, the Bruins recalled forward Ryan Spooner from Providence of the AHL.
