Senators re-sign Marc Methot

NHL, Ottawa Senators

Take one big name off the NHL trade market.

The Ottawa Senators re-signed defenseman Marc Methot to a four-year deal worth $4.9 million per season, the NHL club announced Monday.

Methot was a pending unrestricted free agent. The team had made it clear that if it could not sign him before the March 2 trade deadline, it would move him.

The deal also included a modified 10-team no-trade list.

The 6-foot-3 left-handed top blueliner is a plus-8 with five assists in 17 games this season. Methot, 29, is in his ninth NHL season.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
