NHL fines P.K. Subban $2K

NHL, Montreal Canadiens

Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban is the latest NHL player to be punished by the league for diving, receiving a $2,000 fine.

James Neal of the Nashville Predators, Gustav Nyquist of the Detroit Red Wings, Vincent Trocheck of the Florida Panthers and Cal Clutterbuck of the New York Islanders were also fined $2,000 each earlier this season for receiving their second diving citation of the season.

The disciplinary action is a new process under rule 64 that is "designed to bring attention to and more seriously penalize players (and teams) who repeatedly dive and embellish in an attempt to draw penalties."

Subban received a warning from the league for an incident in a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Jan. 6. He incurred his second infraction during a game against the New York Rangers on Jan. 29, when he received a minor penalty for embellishment on a play involving Rangers forward Chris Kreider.
