St. Louis defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk will undergo abdominal surgery, the Blues announced Monday.
Shattenkirk was injured in the team's 4-3 win over the Capitals on Sunday after colliding with Washington's Alex Ovechkin in the first period.
St. Louis said Shattenkirk will have the procedure in the next seven to 10 days and will be week-to-week following the operation.
The All-Star defenseman, who has played in all 49 of the Blues' games so far this season, is tied for second on the team in scoring with 40 points.
St. Louis (32-13-4) next plays at home Tuesday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
