DALLAS -- Antoine Roussel scored the go-ahead goal 54 seconds into the second period, and the Dallas Stars broke the New York Rangers' eight-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory on Monday night.

John Klingberg and Ales Hemsky also scored for the Stars, who have won six of seven.

The Rangers' streak tied the NHL's longest this season but fell two games short of matching the team record set during the 1939-40 season and equaled in 1972-73.

J.T. Miller and Kevin Hayes scored for the Rangers.

Kari Lehtonen stopped 28 shots and earned his 15th victory of the season. New York's Henrik Lundqvist lost for the first time since Dec. 1.

BLUES 3, AVALANCHE 0

ST. LOUIS -- Martin Brodeur stopped 16 shots and recorded his NHL-record 125th shutout and 691st victory as St. Louis beat the Avalanche.

Dmitrij Jaskin, Chris Butler and Vladimir Tarasenko scored, and Paul Stastny had two assists for the Blues (22-11-3), who snapped a four-game losing streak (0-3-1) and avenged a 5-0 loss at Colorado on Dec. 23.

The Avalanche (13-14-8) have dropped two straight after going 4-0-2 in their previous six games.

ISLANDERS 4, CAPITALS 3, OT

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Johnny Boychuk's power-play goal 2:53 into in overtime lifted the Islanders over the Capitals after New York blew another three-goal lead.

For the second straight game, and fourth in recent weeks, the Islanders led a three-goal lead get away. New York lost at Buffalo 4-3 on Saturday.

This time, the Capitals stormed back in the third period on goals by Eric Fehr, Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin. Braden Holtby stopped 35 shots.

Boychuk's third goal gave the Islanders (24-11-1) their 14th home win, topping their total from last season.

Anders Lee, Lubomir Visnovsky and Calvin de Haan also scored for the Islanders. Jaroslav Halak made 23 saves in his return from injury.

CANADIENS 3, HURRICANES 1

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Jiri Sekac and Lars Eller scored second-period goals, and the Canadiens beat the Hurricanes for their third straight win.

Eric Staal, playing in his 800th NHL game, scored a power-play goal for Carolina (10-22-4) off an assist from his brother Jordan, who played in his first game since breaking his right leg during a preseason contest on Sept. 23.

Jiri Tlusty, who returned after he missing seven games due to an upper-body injury, also had an assist for Carolina. Cam Ward stopped 16 shots.

Max Pacioretty added an empty-net goal in the final minute, and Carey Price had 28 saves for Montreal (23-11-2).

SENATORS 5, SABRES 2

OTTAWA, Ontario -- Bobby Ryan scored three goals to carry the Ottawa Senators to a victory over the Sabres.

Colin Greening was awarded Ottawa's final goal with 2 seconds left after he was hauled down on a breakaway by defenseman Nikita Zadorov with the Sabres net empty for an extra attacker.

Ottawa snapped a three-game losing skid behind a 19-save effort by Craig Anderson. Clarke MacArthur also scored.

Jhonas Enroth made 31 saves for the Sabres, who got goals from Mark Pysyk and Zemgus Girgensons.

DEVILS 3, PENGUINS 1

NEWARK, N.J. -- Travis Zajac had a goal and an assist, and Cory Schneider made 26 saves as the struggling Devils beat the Penguins.

Jaromir Jagr and Adam Henrique also scored for the Devils, who won for only the second time in 10 games (2-5-3).

It was also New Jersey's first win in two games since general manager Lou Lamoriello fired coach Pete DeBoer on Friday and joined new coaches Scott Stevens and Adam Oates behind the bench as part of a three-man committee.

Sidney Crosby scored for the Penguins, who have lost four straight. Marc-Andre Fleury made 24 saves.

WILD 3, JETS 2

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Marco Scandella scored the tiebreaking goal with 12 seconds left in the second period as the Wild rallied from two down to beat the Jets.

Scandella's ninth of the season was Minnesota's third goal in the second period and helped the Wild snap a five-game winless skid.Ryan Carter and Justin Fontaine had the other goals for Minnesota (17-13-4). Sutter and Kyle Brodziak each had assists on the goals.

Minnesota goalie Darcy Kuemper returned after missing one game with food poisoning and made 28 saves.

Michael Frolik and Mathieu Perreault both scored on the power play for the Jets.

LIGHTNING 3, MAPLE LEAFS 2

TAMPA, Fla. -- Steven Stamkos scored his 20th goal to break a third-period tie, and the Tampa Bay Lightning rallied from an early two-goal deficit to beat the Maple Leafs.

Stamkos gave the Lightning a 3-2 lead with his knee-high deflection of Matt Carle's shot with 8:55 to play. Tampa Bay also got goals from Ryan Callahan and Valtteri Filppula.

Mike Santorelli and Joffrey Lupul scored for the Maple Leafs. James Reimer started on consecutive days with Jonathan Bernier sidelined by flu-like symptoms and made 38 saves.

Toronto has lost five of six.

BRUINS 5, RED WINGS 2

BOSTON -- Carl Soderberg had a goal and two assists, and the Bruins took a season-high 45 shots in a win over the Red Wings.

Reilly Smith, Gregory Campbell and Seth Griffin also scored for the Bruins. Chris Kelly added an empty-net goal with 2:26 left in the third period and Tuukka Rask made 28 saves for the Bruins.

Jimmy Howard kept the Red Wings in it, finishing with 40 saves.

Justin Abdelkader and Tomas Tatar scored for Detroit, which had won two straight.

BLACKHAWKS 5, PREDATORS 4, SO

CHICAGO -- Jonathan Toews scored the only goal in the shootout, after Chicago's Bryan Bickell netted the tying goal with 1:13 left in regulation, and the Blackhawks topped the Predators.

Toews provided the winning margin when he beat Pekka Rinne on the Blackhawks' first shootout attempt.

Brad Richards, Andrew Shaw and Marian Hossa scored in a 7:10 span late in the second period to tie it.

James Neal's second goal of the game put Nashville ahead 4-3. Roman Josi and Craig Smith also scored, and Colin Wilson added two assists.

Rinne made 38 saves, and Crawford stopped 36 shots before his perfect shootout.

COYOTES 4, FLYERS 2

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Antoine Vermette scored two goals, and the Coyotes held off the for their third straight victory.

Vermette was originally thought to have earned his fourth NHL hat trick, but more than 30 minutes after the game ended his first goal was credited to Shane Doan instead.

Devan Dubnyk stopped 30 shots in his third straight solid game to help shore up Arizona's shaky goaltending.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson added a power-play goal as the Coyotes matched their longest winning streak of the season.

R.J. Umberger and Sean Couturier scored third-period goals for the Flyers after they fell behind 3-0.

Steve Mason made 21 saves in his return after missing four games with back spasms.

FLAMES 2, KINGS 1

CALGARY, Alberta -- Jiri Hudler had a pair of beautiful setups as the Flames scored twice in the first period and then hung on for a victory over the Kings.

Curtis Glencross and Markus Granlund had the goals for Calgary. The Flames have won three in a row since a seven-game losing streak.

Tyler Toffoli scored for Los Angeles, which began a three-game road trip through Western Canada that continues Tuesday night in Edmonton.
