The Pittsburgh Penguins have not yet shaken the mumps virus, as three more players will undergo testing for the disease before the team readies itself for the upcoming holiday break.
Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford announced in a team news release Monday morning that Steve Downie, Brandon Sutter and Thomas Greiss are all returning to Pittsburgh to get tested.
The trio, all of whom accompanied the team on its trip to Florida for Monday's game against the Panthers, will remain in isolation until the test results come back, according to Rutherford.
Three Penguins players have already tested positive for mumps amid the NHL's puzzling outbreak this season -- Sidney Crosby, Beau Bennett and Olli Maatta. Both Marc-Andre Fleury and Robert Bortuzzo also were tested, though their test results came back negative.
Three members of the Rangers' organization also recently underwent testing, with forward Lee Stempniak and forward Joey Crabb testing positive and coach Ken Gernander of the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate Hartford Wolf Pack undergoing the same procedure. Gernander's results were not immediately known.
The Rangers have taken additional preventative measures to try to curtail further transmission of the disease, which has already impacted Tanner Glass and Derick Brassard, by ensuring that no players share hotel rooms while on the road.
