Son: Gordie Howe doing better

NHL, Detroit Red Wings

Gordie Howe has gained some strength and is now able to be somewhat mobile, his son told the Detroit Free Press.

The Detroit Red Wings legend is out of the hospital and back in a familiar environment, which has helped his improvement. His son, Mark Howe, told the Free Press on Thursday that his father is able to "shuffle" around.

"It's more of a shuffle, but he is making his way around under his own power," Mark Howe said.

The 86-year-old Howe suffered what his children called a serious stroke in late October. He was then hospitalized and treated for dehydration Dec. 1.

Howe has dementia, and now that he is out of the hospital, he is making strides. He has been staying at his daughter's home in Lubbock, Texas.

"Change of surroundings makes his dementia worse," Mark told the Free Press.
