The Chicago Blackhawks traded forward Jeremy Morin to the Columbus Blue Jackets for defenseman Tim Erixon on Sunday.
Morin, 23, had been on a conditioning assignment with the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. He had one goal in three games for the IceHogs. He had not played for the Blackhawks since Nov. 20 and had been a healthy scratch in eight consecutive games. He had zero points in 15 games for the Blackhawks this season.
Morin, who was once considered one of the Blackhawks' top offensive prospects, was expected to play a larger role this season, but never won over Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville. Morin averaged 7:44 of ice time this season. He signed a two-year contract extension with the Blackhawks in June.
Erixon, 23, has one goal, five assists and is a minus-3 in 19 games for the Blue Jackets this season. He has averaged 16:58 of ice time. He has one goal, 12 assists and is a plus-1 in 70 career NHL games. He will report to the Blackhawks.
Erixon will be a restricted free agent after this season. He is making $600,000 this season, according to capgeek.com.
The Blackhawks also reassigned defenseman Klas Dahlbeck to the AHL on Sunday. He had one goal and was a minus-1 in four games since being recalled on Dec. 3. The Blackhawks have seven defensemen on their NHL roster.
