ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry will be out for three to four weeks with a knee injury, the team announced Tuesday.  The Ducks, who have the NHL's best record, also signed former backup goalie Ilya Bryzgalov to a one-year, $2.88 million contract to return to the team. Perry, the 2011 NHL MVP, was injured when Wild defenseman Keith Ballard hit him with a low hip check during the Ducks' 5-4 win at Minnesota last Friday. Perry leads the Ducks, who have the NHL's best record, with 14 goals despite missing six games with mumps last month. He has 22 points in 23 games. A long-term injury is unusual for the durable Perry, who had 43 goals and 39 assists last season. The former 50-goal scorer has missed just 11 games in the previous six seasons combined. Perry will miss his eighth game this season when Anaheim hosts Edmonton on Wednesday. The 34-year-old Bryzgalov began his NHL career with Anaheim, appearing in 69 games from 2001-08. He was the backup to Jean-Sebastien Giguere on the Ducks' only Stanley Cup championship team in 2007. Bryzgalov went on to play for Phoenix, Philadelphia, Edmonton and Minnesota. He appeared in 12 regular-season games and nine playoff games for the Wild last year. Bryzgalov had been out of hockey this year until getting the call from the Ducks, who need a dependable backup behind Frederik Andersen. John Gibson, Anaheim's 21-year-old top prospect, hasn't played since Oct. 30 due to a groin injury. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
