Corey Perry hurt on Ballard hit

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry was helped off the ice by a trainer midway through the first period of Friday night's 5-4 win after a hit from Minnesota Wild defenseman Keith Ballard.

The team announced that Perry suffered a lower-body injury.

Perry was unable to put weight on his left leg after Ballard dipped his shoulder and hit Perry low along the boards. Perry, Anaheim's leading goal scorer, flipped in the air before landing hard on the ice.

No penalty was called on the hit, but minutes later, Anaheim center Nate Thompson fought Ballard.

Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said Perry will travel to Winnipeg, and they'll know more about the injury Saturday.

"Ballard's done that a couple times now. He hits low, I don't know if it was too low or what because I didn't want to look at it yet," Boudreau said. "I'll look at it on the plane, but it is what it is and we'll just readjust."
