Patrick Sharp out 3-4 weeks

NHL, Chicago Blackhawks

CHICAGO -- Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp is expected to miss three to four weeks with a lower-body injury, coach Joel Quenneville said Thursday.

Sharp suffered the undisclosed injury when he was hit into the boards against the Montreal Canadiens during the third period Tuesday. He had to be helped off the ice and did not return to the game.

"Miss a guy like Sharpie, you miss some production, miss some consistency in a lot of areas," Quenneville said after practice Thursday. "At the same time, it's a good opportunity for some guys that are looking and want more."

Sharp has three goals, six assists and is third among the team's forwards with an average of 18:30 of ice time in 13 games this season. He led the Blackhawks with 78 points last season.

The Blackhawks last had to play without Sharp for an extended stretch during the 2013 shortened season. He missed 14 games because of an upper-body injury.

The Blackhawks recalled forward Peter Regin from the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL on Thursday. Regin was second on the IceHogs with 10 points. The Blackhawks have 12 healthy forwards on their roster.

Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo is also recovering from a lower-body injury, which he suffered against the St. Louis Blues on Oct. 25. Quenneville said Carcillo is expected to begin skating again in the next few days.
