NHL players who sat through the 2012-13 lockout will receive the first of three annual installments of collectively bargained "transition payments" in October, a source confirmed to ESPN.com. In these installments, players will receive $190,000 for every $1 million in base salary, based on that player's 2012-13 contract. Take, for example, Montreal's P.K. Subban, whose base salary was $2 million for the 2012-13 season. He will receive $380,000 from the three transition payments beginning next month. The NHL will dole out $100 million for the following three years, fulfilling the agreed-upon transition payments as governed by the CBA, to compensate for players' lowered share of league revenue. The news was first reported by Sportsnet earlier this week.
