After months of speculation regarding who would wear the revered "C" this season for the Montreal Canadiens, the Habs decided to go a different route altogether and name four alternate captains.
On Monday, the team announced that forwards Max Pacioretty and Tomas Plekanec, as well as defensemen P.K. Subban and Andrei Markov, will serve as team alternates -- only the second time in team history that the club has been without a captain.
Veteran forward Brian Gionta previously served as captain, but signed as an unrestricted free agent with his hometown Buffalo Sabres after spending the past five seasons with Montreal.
The Habs were also without a captain during the 2009-10 season following the departure of longtime leader Saku Koivu.
