2. Saku Koivu retires after 18 seasons

Four-time Olympic medalist and cancer survivor Saku Koivu, 39, joins friend and teammate Teemu Selanne in retirement. Koivu, of Finland, spent 13 seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, becoming the first European-born captain in the team's history in 1999. He then joined the Anaheim Ducks in 2009. Story »

4. Ovechkin takes stance on Ukraine

5. Two Charged in Boogaard death

The tragic story of former New York Rangers enforcer Derek Boogaard, who died of an accidental overdose of alcohol and prescription drugs in May 2011, took another twist this week. Two men -- a former minor league hockey player and a team-affiliated physician assistant -- were arrested in connection with his death and charged with the illegal distribution of oxycodone. Story »
